Martha
I’m Martha. I’ve been playing with fabric since my mom taught me how to sew as a kid. I watched her as she explored embroidery, crochet, rug hooking, decoupage, and just about anything else people were doing in the 1970’s. I started a lot of those projects, and did better at some than others. Remember wooden purses? I did that.
Now I’m a weaver. I still love learning and exploring new colors and patterns, so most of my items are one of a kind. I also sew, practice aikido, and rescue cats.
Setting up a loom
I get a lot of questions about how long it takes to weave an item. The answer is always, “it depends.” Part of the reason is that there is so much setup before I start weaving. Here is a short video that shows the last three steps before I began weaving the “Use It Up“ towels – threading the heddles, sleying the reed, and tying on the warp threads.
Weaving
…And here I am weaving a towel.
